Harry Gilmer

     As a freshman he played against Duke in the Sugar Bowl and was 8 for 8 in passing attempts. During his sophomore year in 1945 he led that nation in touchdown passes with 13. He also ran for nine more. In the 1946 Rose Bowl Gilmer rushed for 116 yards and threw for 59. That year he carried the ball 79 times averaging 7.0 yards a carry. He was second in the nation with 1,457 yard of total offense.
He was also the teams punter, punt returner and kickoff return man. In 1946 he led the country with a 14.5 yards per punt return.

      During his brilliant career at Alabama, Gilmer passed for 26 touchdowns and ran for 24. He passed for 2,894 yards and rushed for another 1,673. He also averaged 36.4 yard per punt. He had a spectacular style, jumping in the air when throwing a pass.
